I first want to apologize for the lack of posts lately, as "real" life has invaded on the blog, but I hope to be able to start posting a little more frequently.
I'll start with a RHC exclusive picture that I received a few weeks ago from a friend of the blog.
Rickey's hanging out with Minnie Mouse at Walt Disney World during a parade related to the ESPN the Weekend event. If all goes as planned, I hope to be able to share more candid Rickey pictures of his events in the near future.
The Stockton Ports, the A's AA affiliate announced their 2009 promotional schedule, with July 28th set aside for "Rickey Henderson Hall of Fame Tribute Night." It's not clear if there will actually be a Rickey related giveaway (and I'll be at the actual ceremony in Cooperstown at the time), but if there's is, I'll have to be sure to get one!
Rickey was also on hand this past Sunday at the A's vs. Giants spring training game in Phoenix, and threw out the ceremonial first pitch (just a BIT high to catcher Jason Giambi). While there, Rickey commented on his Hall of Fame acceptance speech, which every sports writer is eagerly awaiting.
"You know, that speech, I don't know if it's going to work out right for me," Henderson said. "A lot of the speech is going to come from my heart, because I'll mess up the speech, I think. I'll try to get everybody I can in and then after that, let the gut take over."
I know I'm definitely looking forward to hearing what he's got to say. I'll have camera and camcorder in hand, and will post any clips of the speech to the blog as soon as possible.
